Offered by the Faculties of Law at the Universities de Chile and Heidelberg, with support from the Max-Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law and the Institute of International Studies at the University of Chile.
Objectives The main objective of the program is to provide a comprehensive review of trends in the era of globalization, are observed in the field of international law, as well as areas trade and international investment and arbitration systems and resolution of disputes in these fields.
Thus, we will analyze the effect of globalization on sources and subjects of international law. It will also address new developments that have occurred in the field of international economic law, protection of the environment and the responsibility of the state and examine the problems that arise in contemporary international society.
addition, special attention to issues related to international trade regulation, with particular emphasis on trade law international investment law and dispute resolution. In this context, the subject of international arbitration, World Trade Organization and ICSID are discussed in detail.
Program Organization
The Master's Programme in International Law - Investment, Trade and Arbitration "is available to lawyers and law graduate from anywhere in the world.
The Master's Degree in International Law (LL.M.) is awarded by the Universities of Heidelberg and Chile.
Participants obtaining the Master's Degree in International Studies are eligible for PhD at the University of Heidelberg.
The program will last one year. Three terms are offered in Santiago de Chile, at the Heidelberg Center for Latin America. The curriculum also provides for a period of three months for the preparation of the thesis. A final school term of one month will be held in Heidelberg, the Max-Planck Institute and the University of Heidelberg. In this period the participants in two workshops and complete their theses.
in each term held in Santiago, will be offered at least eight classes. In the Heidelberg term there will be two seminars. All courses are mandatory.
final examination thesis defense for the degree of Master in International Law will take place in Heidelberg. May exceptionally be the defense of the thesis in Santiago de Chile. The best theses will be published in the form of articles in the Max-Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law and the Institute of International Studies at the University of Chile.
The courses will be in English or English. Participants also can take free courses in German, if they so wish. It provides a series of lectures open to special guests on the program Magister.
Instructional Periods
The program will begin on April 12, 2011 and will feature the following periods for the southern hemisphere:
Fall, Winter and Spring: April to December 2011. Face classes in Santiago de Chile.
Summer: December 2011 - February 2012. Drafting and presentation of the thesis. Heidelberg
Period: March 2012. Seminars and completion of the thesis.
For the Degree of Master in International Law will require the approval of the courses offered in Santiago, the written thesis and oral examination. Thesis is expected to be prepared in Santiago and ending in Heidelberg.
